An unexpected benefit of our TLLP

When I started this project, I was working with a colleague, Daniella, on the idea of exploring graphic texts in a high school setting.  Daniella and I found out we were successful in our application and were excited about the initial conference when Daniella found out she had Clear Cell Carcinoma, a type of Ovarian cancer.  I am happy to say that after surgery and chemotherapy, she is cancer free!  However, it was a scary year for her and for her friends and family.  I was lucky that our friends and colleagues, Joe and Jessica were willing to hop on the TLLP train with me and try to fill Daniella's shoes.  Daniella has still been involved in the project as an informal consultant.

Today, our TLLP team was able to attend a very important event organized by Daniella during our lunch.  All three team members have lost someone to cancer, Joe's dad, Jessica's mom and my grandmother.  So it was particularly meaningful that we were able to attend the dedication of a new Gong in the Windsor Regional Cancer Centre.  The Gong was donated by Daniella and the rest of the Czudner family and is to be used to mark milestones along the way for patients fighting cancer at the Centre.

Standing Ovation is the name of our team in the Ovarian Cancer Walk of Hope.

If you want to know more about the walk or ovarian cancer, check out the Canadian Ovarian Cancer site.
